FAQs

Eyelash Extensions

What are lash extensions made of?

Many beauty salons use mink lashes, but at AVVANA we love to use lash extensions made from silk as they retain their curl longer. Becuase mink is actual hair, it loses its curl when wet. With silk lashes, this problem is avoided. More importantly, we only use cruelty free products.

Will lash extensions pull out my natural lashes?

Eyelash extensions will not pull out the natural lash hair if applied correctly. Here at  AVVANA , we will make sure to use only the best supplies and techniques to ensure that your natural lashes will not be harmed. we can shed up to 15 lashes per week, but because they are so small we often don't notice it. When we have the extensions our natural lash cycle is more noticeable.

How often do I have to come for lash touch ups?

We have options for lash touch ups from one to four weeks. But how frequently you would need to come in for the stylist application will depend on how well you take care of them and your skin type, At AVVANA we always make sure to use the best techniques and products to ensure a prolonged extensions wear, but after you leave the shop it all depends on you. Make sure that you aren't touching and placing any oil based products on the lashes. In the mornings gently brush out the extensions with the brush provided to you by your stylist and shampoo the extensions at the end of the day to remove make up and oil build up.  You must always make sure you are gently when handling them. Lastly, it is dependent on your skin. If you have naturally oily skin, the extensions will come off faster because the oil will slowly break down the adhesive holding the extension to your natural lashes.

Can I apply mascara or strip lashes to my extensions?

Adding mascara or strip lashes to the extensions is not recommended. Applying anything to the lashes inevitably results in having to rub or continuously touch the extensions, which can make them fall off quicker. Mascara also contains oil and when wearing extensions, you want to avoid putting on any products around the eyes that contains oil becuase it can cause the adhesive, holding the extension to the natural lash, to fall off.

Can I get my extensions wet?

You can't get your lash extensions wet within the first 24 hours but after that getting them wet will have no affect. Many people are concerned that wetting the extensions will make them fall off sooner. That is not the case. The adhesiveis is waterproof; therefore water will not cuse the fall out. What you need to be careful about is how you are drying the lashes. Make sure you aren't rubbing the lashes.  Instead, gently brush them out  using the lash brush provided by your stylist. So , don't fear water! Ensure you are cleansing your eyes and extensions, because if you don't then eye gunk or leftover make up will collect near the eye could cause infections.

Are lash extenions heavy, like strip lashes?

Strip lashes feel heavy because the are applied directly to the skin. Eyelash extensions are applied to your natural lash, so the heavy feeling associated with a strip lash isn't present.

Can I get lash extensions if I have really small lashes?

You sure can! We do recommend you go with the volume lashes because they are finer extension. By getting this set it allows us to create your preferred lash style without worrying about putting too much strain on your natural lash.

Will I ever need a lash extension break?

No you can have eyelash extensions for as long as you would like. Lash extensions don't damage the natural lash so you can have them for any amount of time without the worry of harming your natural lashes.

Ombre Powder  &Microblading Brows

Does it hurt or will bleed?

There is minimal discomfort as we will be using a topical numbing gel during the procedure. Most client don't bleed and if they do, it's a dot here and there as if been tweezed a thick brow hair out. Most client find it tolerable and describe it as a 2 or 3 out of 10 on the pain scale.

Will you be drawing out my brows before you actually tattoo them?

Yes, of course! We would pre-draw and map your brows out before-hand based on your bone structure and natural brow growth. Only when you're happy and we happy with the brows do we actually start the tattooing process.

Can I put brow makeup on my brows as they're patchy right now?

As they are healing, we don't recommend putting brow make on them. As soon as there are no more crusting or flakes at about 10 days, you can fill them in the mean time. You will see the true healed results at 4 weeks and we'll darken accordingly at that point.

Do I need to wax, thread, and tweeze my brows before my appointment?

No, we would perfer you grow them out, so that we can actually see where the natural growth of your brow is! This allows us to shape your brow better as we can see them in their natural state!

Can I wear makeup up on the day of my appointment?

You can wear makeup as we will be wiping down the brow area regardless. If you want to show us how you normally fill your brows, that's okay too! This is a collaborative process after all.

Will I get to pick my brow colour and how dark I want them?

Yes, we will consider your preference for warmer tone or ashier tone brow. We tend to match the brow pigment to your natural hair colour as we custom mix the colours every time. On how dark you want the overall brows, we will definitely let you decide how bold you want to go. Not everyone wants dark, bold brows everyday!

Will I look crazy after this procedure?

You won't look crazy! Your brows are obviously dark as they are freshly done. You will look like you went overboard with some brow makeup! However, we promise it will not stay that dark, and most people end up losing about 40% of the saturation when they heal. The brows also shrink a bit so they won't look as full or bold when they fully heal.  We find that almost all my clients ask to go darker at the touch up appointment.

How often should I get my brows touched up/refreshed?

With this method, your brows should still look good even after a year or two. Colours refreshers will depend on your preference. If you perfer a more filled in look, then yes, after a year you can book a colour refresher. If you don't mind them being soft and powdery, then you can refresh the colour after 1.5 -2 years. Keep in mind that eventually with all tattoo work, the skin can hard and reject pigment. We recommend keeping the integrity of your skin in tact for as long as possible, so in between sessions, a little brow makeup can go a long way. Note that this procedure is suppose to make your life easier, but it's not meant to permanetly replace brow makeup forever.

What's your sanitation/sterilization process like?

Almost everything that directly touches your skin and my skin is disposed of after each client. This includes bed cover, hair net, mask gloves, gauzes, needles, pigments, cotton swabs etc. Our mechanical hand piece is covered with plastic and is disposed of after each client. Cleanliness and hygiene is extremely important to us, therefore everything is wiped down with Preempt wipes.
